Geographical zones

Since La Presse is read across Quebec, it is important to define the geographical zone relevant to your advertising campaign. Depending on your needs, you may need to target a large area or focus on a very local level.

For example:

  • To promote an online store: Target the areas where you offer delivery by using the Predefined geographic targeting combinations.

  • To attract new customers to a restaurant: Target a more specific area using the Municipalities and neighbourhoods field.

If no selection is made, the entire province of Quebec will be targeted by default.

Important!

All selected zones are additive.

Consequently, when you want to target a specific zone, you should not also select Canada or the province of Quebec.

Conversely, to target a very large area like Canada or Quebec, it is not necessary to add individual regions or cities.

Municipalities and neighbourhoods

Targeting by cities and municipalities offers greater precision than targeting by regions. Certain neighbourhoods can also be covered. Simply enter the name of the desired location in the search field.

The Municipalities and neighbourhoods field also allows targeting by postal codes using the first 3 characters (the Forward Sortation Area). This method allows for extremely precise targeting, though it may limit available inventory.

Commons questions

What is the difference between Montreal (City) and Montreal (Municipality)?

  • Montreal (City): This targeting corresponds to the administrative limits of the City of Montreal. It includes the 19 boroughs (Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Anjou, Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Lachine, LaSalle, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Le Sud-Ouest, L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Montréal-Nord, Outremont, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Saint-Laurent, Saint-Léonard, Verdun, Ville-Marie and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension) and excludes other independent cities located on Montreal Island.

  • Montreal (Municipality): This targeting is broader. It corresponds to the entire Island of Montreal, including the 19 boroughs and the 15 linked cities (Baie-D’Urfé, Beaconsfield, Côte-Saint-Luc, Dollard-Des Ormeaux, Dorval, Hampstead, Kirkland, L'Île-Dorval, Montréal-Est, Montréal-Ouest, Mont-Royal, Pointe-Claire, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Senneville and Westmount).

Why can't I see a specific city?

  • Check spelling: You can enter 3 consecutive letters of the name to see suggestions.

  • Avoid abbreviations: Ensure you write "Saint" or "Sainte" in full, as "St" and "Ste" are not recognized.

  • Geographic zone: The city must be located within the province of Quebec.

Why don't some neighbourhoods appear?

Check the spelling first (see previous question). If the name is correct, it is possible that traffic volume for that specific zone is too low to allow targeting.

In this case, we recommend slightly widening your zone or entering several surrounding postal codes.

Why is there no inventory available for certain postal codes?

Some postal code areas do not have a sufficient number of users. To guarantee data privacy and prevent the identification of specific individuals, these sectors cannot be targeted individually.

Try expanding to a neighbourhood or city level instead.

Can we target by radius?
